Year 3

It is lovely to welcome you to the Starlings’ Class page. Moving into Key Stage Two is the perfect time to develop the skills you already have and learn new ones too!

One thing you will continue to develop is your independence as the year progresses. In order to support you in this, we have a wonderful staff team who love to learn what works well for each member of our class family. We are always here with a smile, helping hand, a friendly face and a proud ‘well done!’

In the Starlings, we will support your child in developing emotional resilience and maturity. We introduce the power of YET! Adding YET to the end of a sentence, reminds us what is achievable over time. ‘I can’t do this’ becomes ‘I can’t do this YET.’ We focus on and celebrate when we have been successful and have found a way.

We love questions! We learn about how to ask and answer different sorts of questions so we can find out new things. We have the opportunity to investigate and find answers together, developing us as lifelong learners.

We love reading! We develop ‘reading skills to learn’ rather than simply ‘learning to read’. We build on our reading skills developed in Key Stage 1, while continuing to promote and inspire a love of reading. This will include finding out what hundreds, if not thousands, of new words mean in context. Sharing our class text together is one of the parts of the day we look forward to the most!

In the Starlings, we are historians who travel through time from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age, before arriving in Roman Lincoln. As scientists, we learn about light, the human body, magnets and materials. As geographers, we carry out fieldwork when visiting Lincoln and when wearing our wellies in a river!

We celebrate our individual talents, encourage one another to try our best and are always there to lend a helping hand and put a smile on someone’s face. What a wonderful place to grow and learn!

This is a good way of letting staff know any little messages like hospital appointments or changes in pick up arrangements etc. Any messages received will be passed on to classroom staff.
