Computing

COMPUTING SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS, MEDIA, DATA & INFORMATION, PROGRAMMING

We teach Computing to equip our children with the skills needed to be effective users of technology. Children find, explore, analyse and exchange information and learn how to use technology and stay safe.

Technology is changing the lives of everyone. Through the teaching of computing we equip our children to participate in a rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology. Computing skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative and independent learners and it is our intention that children have every opportunity available to allow them to achieve this.

Our computing curriculum is split under a number of key areas:

  • Computing Systems and Networks
  • Creating Media (two units each year)
  • Data and Information
  • Programming (two units each year)

Our pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, understand systems and apply skills in a  range of contexts.

The theme of keeping safe when using technology (e-safety) runs as a thread through all the units taught as well as a focus within the Relationships and Health Education curriculum.  Within our school, we have a range of different resources for the children to use including robots, iPads, Chromebooks, Lego WeDo and MacBooks.  These computing resources support learning across the curriculum.

Our Journeys in Computing

The documents below show each class’s journey of Computing teaching through the year. Over the course of each unit of learning, children unpick and practise the skills to become proficient and effective users of technology.
