Relationships and Health Education
Relationships and Health Education is central to our daily lives, focusing on promoting children’s social development, including health and wellbeing.
Some issues and aspects considered in our Relationships and Health Education curriculum include:
- understanding more about our brains and how this helps us in our learning and relationships
- families and caring friendships
- e-Safety and being safe
- health and fitness (physically and emotionally)
- spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC)
- citizenship and British values
- relationships and sex education (RSE)
These are responded to within a curriculum framework supporting educational entitlement for all pupils and as part of a whole school approach. Issues will always be covered in consideration to the children’s age and emotional maturity.
We are proud to be a part of the myHappymind Family! As a whole school program grounded in science and dedicated to building positive mental wellbeing, myHappymind helps children understand how their brains work and creates a culture that helps to build children's resilience, confidence, and self-esteem. myHappymind also teaches the children how to self-regulate and manage their emotions in stressful times, allowing them to be their very best selves! Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
Based on the themes of human development and family life, RSE is covered within the Relationships and Health Education programme of study. This ensures that RSE is kept in perspective and not isolated as something special to learn. It is important that parents also take equal responsibility for dealing with this aspect of learning. Setting what is being discussed in the context of the family and caring relationships, parents can build on and individualise what has been shared at school.
